“Sokka” by Daniel POP

An experimental dance video that questions a humanity disconnected from its relationship with its environment while searching for a vital energy within a group. Verticalities that disrupt the representative body maps and organicity that harmonizes an inner and outer nature.

Daniel POP – Choreographer, dancer A Romanian contemporary dancer and choreographer, Daniel grew up with dance and travelled through Europe and South America. As Gigi Caciuleanu’s disciple, Director of the Choreographic Center of Rennes and Brittany and Director of the National Ballet of Chile, his career also flourished through powerful encounters with artists such as Ruxandra Racovitza, Carolyn Carlson, Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Olivier Dubois. Graduate of the Conservatoire Régional de Boulogne-Billancourt, he collaborated with numerous dance companies: Karma Dance Project (artistic director: Alice Valentin), Ballet de l\’Ouest Parisien (Alice Psaroudaki), Compagnie Ephata (Catherine Cadol) and participated in workshops with Olivier Dubois, Wuppertal Tanztheater Pina Bausch and Gaga People Paris. This apprenticeship enabled him to develop an eclectic and open vision of dance, which he embodies in his creations and projects. His desires led him to the mythical Parisian cabaret, the Paradis Latin, as well as to a transversal choreographic creation with the \”ENTRE CHIEN ET LOUP\” Editions, to the Romanian Cultural Institute in Paris, to the National Opera of Paris and to the Paris 8 University, where he still carries out his research. He favors transversal collaborations and hybrid formats as part of his experimental research around various subjects such as \”the utopian body\” in a contemporary choreographic creation called \’\’TRANSVIATA\’\’, in a \”video-expo-performance\” format for the \”Utopian Cities and Programmed Societies\” program, in collaboration with the Polytechnic Institute of Paris as part of the \”Victoria Summer Camp\”, and an Exhibition at the \’Fábrica de Pensulz Cluj Napoca\’ with the same team led by Dana DIMINESCU and Tincuta HEINZEL. He took over the artistic direction and interpretation for the awareness-raising video clip \’Refuge d\’amour\’ on the theme of refugees – in collaboration with 4EVERFILMS Production – for Patricia Papuc’s NGO Issues Without Borders. He also explored \”dance-theatre\” with the Compagnie Azacusca Paris and the \”dance-text-perfume-photos\” cross-disciplinary approach for \”ENTRE CHIEN ET LOUP\” under the artistic direction of Sophie JACQMIN. One of his strongest artistic encounters is with Mâalem Omar HAYAT, a precursor of Jimmy HENDRIX. Omar is an icon of the Gnaoua Festival and a representative figure of this culture which opens up to the whole world while remaining in an absolute sacral state. Their artistic “love at first sight” materialized in a musical hybrid graphic creation named \’Qatra\’. Daniel POP runs the ART12PM platform for the purposes of experimenting, searching for projects and artistic encounters, going back and forth between several fields, always in relation with the body.
